Statement on the Rules for Renewing JKF Wado‑kai Examiner Licenses After Their Expiration
(1.) Validity period of examiner qualification
– Three years, starting from the month following the month of certification.
(2.) Renewal of qualification
– Before the expiration date, the examiner must submit a renewal application to Headquarters, including the required training history and the renewal fee
(for 1st–2nd class examiners: 5,000 yen; for 3rd class examiners: 3,000 yen), and must receive approval from the Technical Committee.
Required training history for renewal:
• 2 sessions / 3 years
• Mandatory training sessions: 1 per year is valid
(Even if two sessions are taken in the same year, only one will be counted.)
(3.) Mandatory training sessions that count as valid training history
A. Within Japan:
– National Technical Seminars hosted by the Japanese Technical Committee
– Qualification Renewal Seminars
– Instructor Training Seminars (including training sessions)
– Overseas Member Seminars
– Seminars held overseas in connection with international tournaments or co‑hosted events
(These will be referred to as “Special A” from now on.)
Since the upcoming seminar is co‑hosted, it will be treated as “Special A”.
B. Overseas A‑level seminars recognized by the Technical Committee:
– Seminars held within the same region/continent, conducted by at least one 1st‑class examiner who also holds 1st‑class instructor certification.
Currently, this refers to A‑level seminars taught by instructors dispatched from Japan.
C. Overseas B‑level seminars recognized by the Technical Committee:
– Seminars conducted domestically by at least one 1st‑class examiner (who does not hold 1st‑class instructor certification) or by a 2nd‑class examiner who holds 2nd‑class instructor certification.
For example: a seminar taught by Imai Sensei, or a seminar taught by a 2nd‑class examiner in your country who also holds 2nd‑class instructor certification (prior approval required).
(4.) Mandatory training requirements for each examiner level
• 1st‑class examiners:
– 2 A‑level seminars
– At least one of these must be a mandatory seminar held in Japan or a “Special A” seminar
• 2nd‑class examiners:
– 1 A‑level seminar
– 1 B‑level seminar
• 3rd‑class examiners:
– 2 B‑level seminars
An A‑level seminar counts as a B‑level seminar, but a B‑level seminar does not count as an A‑level seminar.
At the 2025 international meeting, it was explained that:
– Those renewing in March 2026 will receive a grace period for training history.
– Those renewing in March 2027 will receive a one‑session grace period.
– Those renewing in March 2028 will need two completed training sessions.
Additional notes:
– If an instructor who teaches a seminar pays the mandatory training fee (10,000 yen), please include their name in the training‑history list.
– A‑ or B‑level seminars must receive approval from the Headquarters Technical Committee at least one month before the event.
Post‑event approval is not permitted.
(5.) Management of training history
If an examiner wishes to count an overseas seminar as part of their training history, the seminar organizer must collect, in addition to the participation fee, the qualification‑renewal training fee (10,000 yen).
The organizer must then send both the list of participants (only those who wish to count the seminar toward their training history) and the collected fees to Headquarters.
After confirming both, Headquarters will record the training history in the official ledger.
General participants’ names do not need to be included.
This Headquarters‑managed training history will be checked at the time of renewal application.
